A diverse New York City community dedicated to the art, history, and culture of quiltmaking since 1987.
Quilters of Color Network of New York City was founded in 1987 in New York City. It is a diverse group of men and women dedicated to creating historical and contemporary American quilts inspired by various ethnicities. Its long-term mission is to illustrate social images and events through the art of quilt-making throughout the 21st century.
Over more than three decades, members have exhibited their work, curated exhibitions, participated and placed in quilting competitions, participated in cross-cultural learning exchanges, conducted multilevel workshops on quilting techniques and methods, and attended conferences and congresses nationally and internationally.
The organization and its members have received recognition from quilters, historians, authors, and people documenting African American quiltmaking.
